The BikeJAM: In The Parks event is the launch pad  to build 5 new Access Sport community BMX clubs, including one hub club which will inherit the new Olympic Velopark facility. The East London Business Alliance (ELBA) and the Olympic Lottery Distributor (OLD) are sponsoring BikeJAM: In the Parks and are helping us to begin this community sports project. In addition to the the Olympic Lottery Distributor and ELBA partnership we are delighted to joining forces with the Tour of Britain, British Cycling and Newham Borough Council for this particular event.

BikeJAM is about trying new things out and getting involved in cycling – situated near the finishing line of the Tour of Britain pro cycle race, next to the team buses, with TV cameras covering the race from every angle (including helicopter); this is going to be a memorable event. You will have the opportunity to get up close to the cycling stars and their teams, watch the Tour final prize presentation, see amazing demonstrations of skill and daring, and have a go yourself.

Crucially this event is not just one day of excitement – it is about inspiring young people and adults to become involved longer term. We are looking for dedicated enthusiasts who might be willing to help coach and run at cycling clubs, especially the new BMX clubs – this is a great opportunity to be trained up and help the next generation of young cyclists. We also want young people and parents to learn about what is on offer locally and go along to club sessions.

BikeJAM is endorsed by Access Sport ambassadors including Bradley Wiggins, Rebecca Romero and James Cracknell. Team Sky leader, Londoner and multiple Olympic Gold Medallist Bradley Wiggins is passionate about ensuring the Games has a deep and lasting effect at local level:

''BMX is my life and passion, I was a young kid when I got into racing so I am right behind Access Sport and British Cycling’s project to create 5 new BMX clubs in East London, there definitely needs to be better tracks in London as a lot of great talent comes from there.''
