Sophia Rashad, founding member of Newham’s Women United Association Football Club, has received a nomination at the first ever Asians in Football Awards.

This new awards ceremony has been established with the help of Kick It Out and the Football Association and will take place at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday 24th January.
WUAFC’s organiser Shona Pollock nominated Sophia Rashid as Volunteer of the Year but the judging panel were so impressed by her achievements they have shortlisted her as ASIAN SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR.
Sophia, aged 33, is a founding member of the community club, and plays an important role, not just in Defence, but in managing the club’s finances as Treasurer.
Sophia attended Plashet Girls School, alongside her 5 sisters and is mother to 3 children, all schooled in Newham.
She is involved in a number of community groups and has recently started coaching the Girl’s Under 9’s team at Dagenham United.
The club has recently joined the Active Women Project and is looking forward to working with Club Development Manager Becca Owen to develop the club and get more girls on board. For more information please contact becca.owen@accesssport.co.uk.
