On Friday 27^th January 2017 we were extremely excited to be heading to the Oxfordshire Sport and Physical Activity awards having been shortlisted for the Sport Development Project of the Year for our Oxford High Sheriff Project.

After sitting down and hearing what amazing projects we were up against we were not confident at all. However, following the obligatory pause, we were exceptionally proud to be crowned the winner!

Access Sport Senior Programme Leader Becca O’Neil and key businessman Richard Venables who will be taking on the High Sheriff role in 2018 and has committed to raising funds for the next phase of the project, collected the award on the night. They had to say a few words and thanked Tony Stratton and the Oxford City Council who worked in partnership on this project, and explained that we worked with 15 clubs in Oxford city to increase the opportunities for young people from deprived communities to engage in more sport and physical activity.

In addition to getting more young people active we offer additional opportunities to the young people, coaches and volunteers in paying for qualifications such as coaching or safeguarding courses. Our on the ground Club Development Manger provides long term support to the clubs to ensure the offer is going to exist long after the project support finishes.
