Access Sport’s Down Syndrome football team attended their third DSActive national tournament in the West Midlands on Sunday 11th June. The event was the biggest yet as 21 teams from around the county took part. The day provided the club, as well as many others, with the opportunity to play competitive football matches against others teams.

The tournament involved each team being placed in to groups with everyone playing each other once, the winning team from each group progressed to the semi-finals and then the final. Each game had a great atmosphere with many parents and carers travelling with the teams to show their support. The players were also very supportive of their teammates and players from the opposing teams with friendly handshakes and words of encouragement before and after the games.

The Bristol team, who were also proudly representing Bristol City FC in kit generously donated by them, managed to finish 3rd in their group which is their best result yet. They also managed to win more games and score more goals than ever before showing how the weekly sessions, only possible through committed coaches and volunteers, has helped participants develop skills and improve team cohesion. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and the players received a medal to take away with them. The group are already looking forward to the next tournament and the possibility of some friendly games in the coming months.
