THURSDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2019, 111 RIDERS FROM ACROSS LONDON MET AT THE OLYMPIC PARK BMX TRACK TO COMPETE IN ACCESS SPORT’S ANNUAL WINTER SERIES BMX SCHOOL GAMES.

Race day Report:

On Wednesday 28th November we greeted 111 students from 7 Schools across London, to take part in our annual Winter Series BMX School games at Lee Valley VeloPark BMX Track, where all the action happened. All participants that attended have been taking part in our 12 week ‘Making Trax’ programme. It was amazing to see the progress each individual has made and to see every person take part on the day.

Up first we had 22 Primary girls head-to-head from Manorfield, Mayflower, Hillyfield and Home Education. These girls all had incredible performances and were eager to start off the races. The next category was our largest category in the event, formed of 33 Primary Boys from Manorfield, Mayflower and Home Education. Nothing was holding these boys back, all showing perseverance as well as great skills learnt throughout the programme.

Following on were 20 riders from City of London Academy, Mossbourne Community Academy and Home education in the Yr7, 8 & 9 girls category and blew us away with their impressive performances and speedy times. Up next were the Yr7 & 8 boys with 18 riders from Woolwich Polytechnic, Mossbourne and Home Education, again giving each other a run for the money and putting 110% into the races. Following close by were the last category formed of 18 Boys Yr 9 & 10+ from City of London Academy, Woolwich Polytechnic and Home Education, finishing off the first round of outstanding moto’s with remarkable racing, showing their truly exceptional ability.

Then it was on to round 2 of the day’s moto’s.

After working up an appetite in the first two moto’s it was time for a rest & lunch. Soon enough it was back outside for the riders to complete their last moto’s, which would be the decider for the finals races, with only the top 8 riders from each age category going through to win a spot on that all important podium. While the riders were nervously waiting for the finals to be calculated it was time for the Teachers & Volunteers race. Students surrounded the track cheering, while the teachers and volunteers attacked the track with all their might.

FINALS TIME. The top 8 riders from each age category were called out on the microphone and started to line up in their pens ready to battle it out for the top 3 podium positions. Find out the results below.

From all of us at Access Sport we would like to say a massive thank you to all the incredible competitors, teachers, volunteers and VeloPark Staff. A huge well done to all the riders, which for many was their first BMX competition and for some the first time on a BMX track! We hope to see you in April for our Spring Series Games!
