We are celebrating Coaching Week 2019 by doing a Q+A with 2018 UK Coaching Awards finalist Sarah Toone, who is using #GreatCoaching to inspire others in cycling and BMX here at Access Sport.

Here’s what she had to say…

What is your role at Access Sport?

I’m the Delivery Development Manager for Access Sports Making Trax’s cycling programme.

What does being a coach mean to you?

Coaching is an immensely enjoyable and creative experience for me to help develop those I coach as well as myself along the way.  I qualified and practiced as a Psychodynamic Counsellor many years ago and coaching feels like a less intense but equally as effective way of helping others.

What are your core values as a coach?

Respect, compassion and joy!

Who is your coaching inspiration any why?

Darren Claggett a freestyle BMX volunteer at one of the BMX Clubs we set up.  He’s got a very relaxed and creative way of supporting riders including myself.  His ability to fathom and correct confidence and technique issues seem almost magical.  He’s also a great rider and super humble.  He shares both the ups and downs of his experience in a very empathetic way, that helps puts riders at ease when they’re struggling. The theme for Coaching Week is #GreatCoaching – What does this look like to you?

Happy, relaxed, connected, motivated and actively engaged riders and coaches.

We are continuing to spread the message on what #GreatCoaching means to us over on our @MakingTrax twitter page, so be sure to check in on the conversation throughout the week!
