We are delighted to announce that BMXercise has been shortlisted at the 2020 UK Coaching Awards within the ‘Coaching for an Active Life’ category.

The annual UK coaching awards is a special opportunity to recognise individuals and programmes within the sports and physical activity industry. The event is highly awaited amongst the coaching community and we are thrilled that our BMXercise project has been recognised for its amazing work across the country. Access Sports’ Club Inclusion Manager, Aisha Lawal says “We are delighted to be selected as a finalist at the 2020 UK Coaching Awards. BMXercise is a wonderful initiative that has helped many women gain the confidence to pick up a skill they may have never thought of taking up. We are continuously promoting sessions and look forward to encouraging more women to join the movement.”

BMXercise is fun, friendly and fitness-based BMX sessions for women of all ages (16+), fitness levels and abilities. With such disparity between male and female involvement in cycling, BMXercise was designed and created to allow women, to experience BMX in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment. The programme’s aims are to bring more women into the sport, but has consequently created a movement and a community that continues to motivate and inspire one another. Our participants have not only the opportunity to get active, but also improve their cycling ability in a safe environment, connect with others and be welcomed to the world of BMX. In a year where cycling has been heralded an important part of the post-covid reconstruction, it is also great to see other cycling coaches and organisations nominated. With this in mind, we would like to recognise Nicky Haverson and her nomination for Children and Young People’s coach of the year and our partner British Cycling for their nomination for the Transforming Coaching award.

The awards will take place virtually on the 3rd December. For full list of nominees see the UK Coaching website: https://www.ukcoaching.org/events/our-awards

We wish all nominees the best of luck!
