A Strider bike is a balance bike with no pedals that makes learning how to cycle as easy as walking. Starting on a Strider allows a child with cognitive impairments like downs syndrome and autism to develop the balance, motor skills and fitness necessary to gain the basic life skill of cycling. Not only does this provide them with a life-long skill and the ability to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle but the training can help speed up fine motor development and build control, strength and skills to benefit their everyday life.
Too often young people with learning and developmental disabilities are excluded from sports like cycling, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Providing a child with a Strider bike gives them the tools they need to improve their health and wellbeing but also importantly for any young person, the chance to join in.
