We believe young people who develop through our community sport programmes have the potential to make a real difference in community sport, so we are setting up a new Young Leaders Academy to offer young sports leaders additional training and qualifications.

With formal sports leadership qualifications as well as leadership skills such as public speaking, Access Sport Young Leaders will be equipped to take youth volunteering in sport up to an entirely new level.

Once trained, each participant will become a sports leader in their local community, driving their local sports club forward so it can provide opportunities to scores more vulnerable and disabled young people. By doing this, each Young Leader will directly enable on average a further 20 young people to change their lives through sport.

In Spring 2019, thanks to support from adidas and adidas customers, we will be able to train the first group of 25 new Young Leaders, many of whom will be in Manchester, one of Access Sport’s key cities – once trained, these Young Leaders can then reach 500 vulnerable young people with sporting opportunities. Every £25 raised for this initiative means another young life changed.

In total, Access Sport works to up-skill and develop hundreds of volunteers every year across 140+ community sports clubs. If you would like to start volunteering, please visit our volunteering Facebook page for the latest opportunities.
