Our mission is to support all basketball clubs to change the sport of basketball for good so that everyone has the opportunity to play the sport they love in a fun, inclusive and accessible environment.

We believe basketball has huge untapped potential to transform the lives of underserved young people in their local communities.

We know from Sport England’s Active Lives1 data that the more vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in society are attracted to basketball. We also know that basketball is consistently more impactful on health and well-being2 compared to other sports. Basketball England was also rated top in the Sporting Equals 2022 Race Representation Index3 showing a strong commitment to diversity in the sport at all levels.

However, only c50,000 people from disadvantaged areas play on a regular basis and there are decaying and underutilised basketball courts across the country, many of which are located in our most underserved communities.

What are we doing about this?

  • Facilities: using Basketball England’s #ProjectSwish campaign we rejuvenate basketball courts that are accessible to underserved communities and are free to use.
  • Clubs: we support basketball clubs to establish and launch new offers to engage young people with disabilities, girls, those from ethnically diverse communities and those from low-income families. This includes our club inclusion products which enable clubs to cater for specific demographic groups, such as our pan disability Hoopz offer. We provide access to funding, upskill coaches and volunteers and connect our clubs through our Inclusive Club Network.

We also work directly with Basketball England to promote sustainable and long-term change within basketball.
