The Bristol Life Awards celebrate the very best Bristol has to offer, recognising the achievements and contributions made by local organisations.

The Making Trax Programme will compete as a finalist within the hotly contested Charity category, which is open to all local independent registered charities. All nominees display an incredible charitable contribution to the city, so sharing this category with such outstanding finalists on a record-breaking year for nominations is a great achievement for Access Sport in Bristol.

To be considered for this award, we had to show what makes our Making Trax Programme such a unique asset to Bristol, as well as displaying how the last 12 months has been such a stand-out year for the programme.

2018 was the year the Making Trax Programme started to make a big impact within Bristol, offering long-awaited opportunities to disadvantaged communities and individuals with disabilities.

Within the last 12 months, the Making Trax Programme has created 2 thriving BMX tracks and community clubs in the most deprived areas of Bristol. June saw the launch of a new regional standard BMX track in Lawrence Weston, which was shortly followed by the October launch of Hillfields pump track.

Alongside these 2 BMX tracks, Access Sport have created flourishing community clubs, which provide opportunities for all, comprising of specific disability-inclusion sections, known as Wingz. Access Sport equip all local volunteers with valuable skills, knowledge and qualifications, as well as providing clubs with essential equipment, including bikes, helmets and a club container. This support will then allow the clubs to become a sustainable, self-sufficient sports hub at the heart of their community.

Within the next 2 years, the Making Trax Programme aims to create a total of 5 BMX tracks and volunteer-led community clubs in Bristol.
