100% of participants who completed feedback forms said that they would like to do the sports they tried at the event again.

Following the success of the summer event, Access Sport and Ignite Bristol host a second multi-sport festival to showcase the range of inclusive activity in Bristol.

The Ignite Bristol Multi-Sport Festival is an opportunity for inclusive clubs and sports organisations to get together and showcase the range of disability inclusive sport and physical activity options available in Bristol. The participating clubs are part of Ignite Bristol - a movement to get more disabled people active in Bristol, spearheaded by Access Sport.

The festival in October saw 18 inclusive local clubs deliver different sessions throughout the day so that participants could try a new sport or activity during their visit. Participants also had the chance to visit stalls to speak directly to club representatives and find out more about their inclusive offers. Many of the clubs attending had already been in contact with the Access Sport team in Bristol and it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces.

“It is a great opportunity to promote what we do and our activity offer to new disabled people.” – Club

The coaches running the inclusive sessions were highly experienced, confident and used to working with individuals with a range of different needs. The sessions were pan disability and were adapted to ensure that everyone could enjoy taking part safely. As a result, the participants felt comfortable trying the range of activities on offer – with families and carers able to join in too!

"As a parent of a young man with complex additional needs we have found the events organised by Lizzie and the Ignite team to be remarkably well organised and wide ranging and offer my son the opportunities to take part in sports that he enjoys safely and with appropriate levels of support. They also offer him the opportunity to try sports that have been previously inaccessible. As parents, it is often impossible to find the information that we need in order to give our young people choices and opportunities, often relying on other parents for information and recommendations. The booklet they have produced is a well put together one stop guide to accessible sporting activities in Bristol and surrounding areas and will go a long way in providing parents with this much needed information”. - Parent

The multi-sport event was also an opportunity for professionals working in the disability, health, education and youth sectors to see the range of inclusive activity available for the disabled community in Bristol.

Participants were also given a physical copy of the Ignite Bristol Directory with information on all the inclusive sport opportunities in Bristol. We look forward to releasing the digital version soon. For updates, sign up to the Ignite Bristol mailing list below.
