The 2019 games encouraged 5 schools from all around Bristol which included Chester Park Junior School, Downend School, Knowle DGE, Lansdown Park Academy and Kingsweston School to attend the races and take part in the schools competition involving over 50 students. Everyone who participated has been involved in the Making Trax ‘Outreach’ Programme over the past year and were determined to compete, with some students having little to no experience on the track.

Fortunately, the rain held off for the day allowing participants to fit in multiple practice laps prior to the motos, and were excited and keen to get the racing started.

First up, the primary girls race where all participants were from Chester Park Junior School, based in Hillfields. Chester Park Junior School had only ridden the track once before however, this didn’t affect the hard-working ethic each of the girls displayed by all competing and completing the race. Jaida showed an outstanding performance by winning every heat and battled to win the gold medal in the final.

The primary boy’s race was next and the 7 racers from Chester Park Junior School were raring to go, the race was tight and busy with each rider giving it their all. Throughout all of the races two riders, Jack and Devonte, were neck and neck fighting it out for the top spot, with Devonte eventually pulling away and stealing the win.

Shortly after was the girl’s secondary race, due to unforeseen circumstances this ended up being a race between three riders from Downend School, however this didn’t stop their competitive spirit as all three riders fought for first place.

Each of the riders showed great confidence and determination to compete in such a small race, and congratulations to all three who took part. Confidence among the girls grew over the four races, and the final was a great race to watch.

Next to compete were the year 7 and 8 boys with riders from Lansdown Park Academy, KnowleDGE, Kingsweston School and Downend School. The race instantly had a competitive nature and anticipation was in the air. Multiple riders had come first place in their motos making the final a battle of the top riders between Callan, Sion and Austin. Callan came out on top in the final race, and was cheered on enthusiastically by his school mates from Knowle DGE.

After this came the races for year 9 and 10 boys with participants from Lansdown Park Academy, KnowleDGE, Kingsweston School and Downend School. Once again this proved to be a very tight category, and was great entertainment for those spectating. Sportsmanship was also shown by riders throughout the day, a special mention goes to Bailey from Lansdown Park Academy and Kwame from Knowle DGE who both in separate races stopped to help other riders who had fallen on the track even though they had a chance in winning their race.

The Wingz races closed up the proceedings of the Making Trax School Games with riders from Kingsweston School taking part, everyone showed tremendous teamwork and drive to race on the track. Well done all! Congratulations to Jacob who won the race overall.

The riders could rest as the well-earned lunchtime began which was shortly followed by a teachers and volunteers race. There was a big cheer for the teacher from Chester Park Junior School who came in first for the teachers and volunteers behind Access Sport’s Apprentice Coach, Jordan.

The finals and presentations completed the Second Making Trax School Games. Thank you to everyone who showed appreciation for friends and cheered on their fellow participants whether they were a school mate or not, a massive well done to all who took part on the day. A great effort from everyone!
