"We have already scheduled disability groups within our timetable, and we are eager to make tennis accessible to everyone."

Just one in five (20 per cent) disabled people had taken part in an organised activity session in the last year, compared to 25 per cent of non-disabled people.(The Activity Alliance Annual Disability and Activity Survey 2021-22)

Our insights have shown that tennis has always been a popular sport to engage disabled young people due to the nature of the activity, the fact you can play as a family and the gentle approach taken in each session. Access Sport and The LTA are working together to support more clubs across London to deliver pan-disability tennis.

We have supported Raw Tennis in Bromley to deliver pan-disability sessions to D/deaf and disabled children aged 6 – 11. Access Sport supported Raw Tennis to develop and embed a meaningful and sustainable offer so that they could encourage children to try tennis for the first time in a truly inclusive space. The sessions are fun and friendly where each child takes the session at their own pace and Head Coach Jake adapts his games and uses a variety of sensory equipment to support each young person.

“[My son]  is really enjoying the sessions at RAW Tennis... All the coaches are very friendly while keeping the kids on task. They are always supportive and encouraging even about little things, which goes a long way in building confidence of SEN children. I think he enjoys being taught how to hit  the ball correctly while getting praised for his success. Great experience!” – Parent

“Our partnership with Access Sport is providing us with an opportunity to establish and maintain a strong link within our community to deliver a dedicated pan-disability inclusive tennis programme. Without Access Sport and their expertise this would be much harder to orchestrate. We have already scheduled disability groups within our timetable, and we are eager to make tennis accessible to everyone.” – Jake, Head Coach
