After hearing from local disabled young people that there is a demand for inclusive basketball sessions, Access Sport supported Shine to launch a new community group in April 2021.

Support from Access Sport included:

• Access Sport’s Disability Inclusion Training
• Funding for additional equipment
• Promotion of sessions and direct links to appropriate groups
• Volunteer recruitment and support
• Ongoing session support and guidance

“The support that Access Sport has provided us with when setting up the Sharks inclusion basketball programme has been exceptional! The team have been extremely helpful on a number of occasions, they have shared our promotional information with other local groups, provided funding for equipment that is essential to the sessions, information sharing and networking to allow the target audience to be accessed and providing training to our staff to ensure they are educated on how to deliver the sessions. The project has really good interest levels and Access Sport have had a pivotal role to play.”

In the first three months, they have already engaged 28 participants!
