"This was an amazing opportunity for our pupils. The tutors were great. They had to be very patient but always knew how to challenge and motivate the students" Head Teacher, Lady RC High School.

Access Sport’s Young Leaders course is a six-hour intensive course for disadvantaged, disengaged and less active young people in our community sport network.

Our expert team consists of experienced coaches, youth workers and educators who are available to support your young people.

At the heart of our programme is our commitment to community sport and leadership, delivered in six one-hour sessions at school, in the community centre or at the BMX pump track.

We develop key skills in young people: self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, communication skills and teamwork.

We believe these skills are the key to success in life beyond school: they provide the foundational tools for young people to build relationships and become the community sport leaders of tomorrow.

We tailor our courses for the needs of the young people we are working with, who are typically from 14 to 19 years old. The optimum number of participants is 16 but groups range from 8 to 25 participants.

The course is free at the point of use and includes:

  • Fully inclusive training offer which can be adapted to all groups including SEND/ SEMH schools and other non-traditional settings e.g. PRU students
  • Hands-on and practical work, recognising that desk-based/paperwork-heavy courses are less effective for the young people we support
  • An emphasis on encouraging young people to champion diversity and inclusion in their local communities.

After completing an initial 6-hour Young Leaders Course, we invite all those who want to progress to join our Young Leaders Academy.
