On Sunday 26 April, 22 runners took on the world’s most famous marathon to raise vital funds for Access Sport.

With Access Sport team members positioned throughout the course, an unbelievable cheer squad energetically supported every runner from start to finish

What made the day so incredible was not just the remarkable physical challenge, but the powerful stories behind each member of Team Access Sport. Whether it was Rory, who ran in memory of his close friend Stephen Jenkins, who tragically passed away during the Cardiff Half Marathon in 2024, or Alex, whose daughter has directly benefited from Firefly – a local framing club supported by Access Sport – every runner truly believes in the life-changing benefits of community sport and is committed to our mission.

Through their incredible effort and generous fundraising, more than £75,000 was raised, which will go towards changing even more young lives through the power of inclusive community sport. A special thank you goes to each and every one of them.

A clear highlight of the day was seeing our Fundraising and Communications Director, Thomas Dixon, break the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon run in cricket kit. Tom finished the race in an outstanding time of 3:19:28.

Wesley Newman, National Youth Board Member, said:

“London Marathon was absolutely incredible. Fundraising for Access Sport motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and do something different. Access Sport kept me going throughout training, and the day itself was electric! I shocked myself (and Shock Wheelchair Basketball Club) with my time. I can’t thank everyone who cheered, supported and donated enough!”

Rory Price, Access Sport Trustee, said:

“Incredible day running for an incredible cause. The support from the Access Sport team, and sharing the experience with the other Access Sport runners, made it even more special.”

Ryan Canavan, Partners Wealth Management, said:

“Running the London Marathon for Access Sport was an incredibly meaningful experience, made even more special after attending their fundraising dinner, where I felt genuinely inspired. Sport has given me so much throughout my life, so I’m proud to have supported Access Sport’s work and be part of something that opens sport to all.”

We finished the day with a special runners’ reception in Knightsbridge at the Park Tower Hotel. Our runners received the VIP treatment in a private suite, along with all the post-marathon treats they could dream of.
