Thank you to The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation for your continued support.

Today Access Sport celebrates its continuing partnership with The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation.

Their renewed support will supercharge our Changing Places Manchester programme as we work to transform young disabled people's lives through sport.

Albert Gubay was an exceptional man; an entrepreneur who, in his lifetime, created a business empire that was worth over £700 million. Almost all the wealth he created was gifted to The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation.

A new donation of £148,000 will enable us to support thousands of disabled young people to participate in inclusive community sport in Greater Manchester over the next three years. Working together we want to ensure that no disabled young person in the area misses out on the transformational benefits of belonging to a community sport club.

This donation builds on Access Sport's long-term partnership with The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation who have previously supported our Young Leaders work in Manchester between 2021 and 2024. After supporting us to create the next generation of community sport leaders we have decided to work together to improve the disability-inclusive sport space in the region.

The partnership will enable our local team to work with more clubs, volunteers and Young Leaders to set up new inclusive sporting opportunities for disabled young people. The funding will also broaden our ability to upskill and train grassroots community clubs, ensuring they have the skills to deliver activities for disabled young people.

By 2027, with The Albert Gubay Foundaiton funding, we will support:

  • 45 clubs to create new inclusive activities
  • 1500 young people to access the life-changing benefits of community sport.

Our target demographics include 50% of participants from the most deprived areas, 50% female, 30% from ethnically diverse communities, and 90% disabled people (10% siblings). These young people will engage with our programmes either through direct outreach or by joining community clubs.

A representative from The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation said:

“We are honoured to support Access Sport in this important initiative. We receive many strong proposals, but Access Sport’s commitment to inclusivity really resonates with us. Our mission is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those most in need, and believe that increasing skills in community sports clubs and increasing access to sport for many young people in Greater Manchester will help to achieve that.”

Helen Rowbotham, Chief Executive at Access Sport said:

“On behalf of the children and young people we support, we would like to say a huge thank you to the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation for their support! Over the next two years, we will scale up our disability inclusion activity across Greater Manchester and tangibly improve young lives. This is a game-changing partnership for our beneficiaries.”

We are grateful to The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation for their ongoing support and funding.
