Access Sport is proud to announce a new partnership with British Cycling that will create more opportunities for disadvantaged and disabled children and young people to experience the joy of cycling.

At Access Sport, our mission is to make inclusion the norm in community sport.

We work to ensure that every young person – regardless of their background or ability – has access to local, safe and exciting opportunities to play and be active. Partnering with British Cycling represents a significant step forward in achieving this mission within the sport of cycling.

The partnership will support more children and young people through British Cycling-affiliated clubs – including Limitless champion and focus clubs – and Access Sport’s extensive inclusive club network, enabling them to progress along an inclusive and supportive cycling pathway.

Through this collaboration, we aim to:

  • Support, train, and equip local communities to develop inclusive cycling clubs, measured by Access Sport’s Club Inclusion Tool
  • Offer Neurodiversity inclusion training for up to 200 cycling coaches, volunteers and members of the cycling workforce
  • 25 new activity coaches, aspiring cycling coaches, and activators qualified via the British Cycling enhanced Coaching Learning Framework.

The partnership will leverage British Cycling’s flexible and accessible learning opportunities, while aligning with their 2025-2029 volunteer development plan to support, grow and develop a diverse network of volunteers.

We will also collaborate to signpost riders to existing opportunities such as British Cycling’s Limitless Race Days - which are a format for entry-level racing, making cycling more accessible for all – in target areas, to create more opportunities for young people.

Nick Barr, Head of Participation at British Cycling, said:

“By bringing about more opportunities to disabled and disadvantaged children and young people, we can tackle inequalities and break down barriers to improve people’s health and well-being and deliver impactful social change.

“Access Sport already do brilliant work with these under-served children and young people, so it is exciting to be leveraging our existing internationally recognised programmes such as Limitless, and our wide network of clubs, to bring the joy of cycling to more people, so they can reap the health and social benefits which will transform their lives.”

Helen Rowbotham, Chief Executive at Access Sport, said:

“Our mission is to support all community cycling clubs to change the sport of cycling for good so that everyone has the opportunity to access a bike, the skills and confidence to use it and somewhere local, safe and exciting to enjoy riding. Partnerships like this support this mission by empowering local communities to use cycling to create tangible positive change. We are excited to continue working with British Cycling and look forward to achieving our ambitious targets.”
