Following the announcement of the National Lockdown, Access Sport launched the Lockdown BMXercise initiative on Tuesday 26th January 2021. Aisha Lawal, Club Inclusion Manager from Access Sport said:

“BMXercise plays an important role in many women’s lives. It gives them a chance to do something for themselves and try something different. When the national lockdown was announced, it was imperative we responded in a positive way and offered an alternative outlet for women to engage with.”

The online sessions led by BMXercise coach and champion Silvi Vargas offer something for everyone from experienced BMXers to those new to the sport. This includes incorporating fitness activities, mindfulness, opportunities to learn new skills/tips and a chance to catch up with fellow BMXercisers to keep spirits high.

Since the launch, sessions have been hugely successful, and we have managed to attract new women to BMXercise and support them during this time. Many have expressed their gratefulness for being able to connect with likeminded women and feel a sense of belonging.

Great session this evening. Great to meet with other BMX/BMXercise women.” - Participant

Alongside the weekly sessions, we have also launched some live skills demonstrations. Each week Silvi records a video of herself performing a skill on her bike, to encourage women get out to have a go and keep active. Those interested can then record themselves performing the skill, share their video with Silvi who then provides personalised and tailored feedback.

“That is really a great video and helpful too. Thanks for sharing much appreciated.” – Participant

Sessions are proving to be a great success and we would love to encourage more women to attend and join in with the fun. Even if you have never tried BMX or attended one of our BMXercise sessions, we would urge you to come along! All sessions are friendly and social. Come and join us! Sessions will be running every Tuesday throughout lockdown from 17:30-18:30pm.
