Last night, 70 influential guests attended our exclusive networking event in Manchester – An Evening with Access Sport.

Local partners, connections and stakeholders joined us at Ernst & Young’s (EY) central Manchester office to celebrate our work with disadvantaged and disabled young people in the area, and to network with other like-minded individuals.

You can watch a full recap of the evening by clicking on the below video.

The attendees were treated to incredible views across the city from the central Manchester location. It was a terrific evening and a brilliant opportunity to discuss why inclusion in sport matters. The highlight of the night was our expert panel discussion which included British Cycling CEO Jon Dutton, current boxing World Champion Natasha Jonas, Sale Sharks legend Will Cliff and community club founder Kevin McVetty. It was fascinating to learn more about each of the panellist's experiences in sport and why they are passionate about inclusivity.

Key takeaways from the panel were:

  • Every sport has the potential to be inclusive
  • Community clubs in challenging areas have a transformational impact on children and young people when they are effectively supported
  • Covid has had a significant impact on young people’s mental health. Sport is an important tool to help them get out outside, socialise and stay active
  • All attendees can help Access Sport make inclusion the norm through funding and partnerships.

There were also lots of discussions throughout the evening about how organisations can partner with Access Sport to make a tangible difference in the local community.

With lots of passion for sport in the room, we are confident going forward that we can grow our impact on underserved young people in Manchester.

Thank you to our corporate partner, Sullivan and Stanley, for your sponsorship of the event and to EY for hosting us. Also, to our volunteer steering group and all the attendees.
