"If I can help get more young people riding a bike or being active in any sport – then I’m
all in!”

Access Sport is delighted to officially welcome Declan Brooks as an Ambassador!

Declan, who won a bronze medal in BMX Freestyle at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, has been supporting Access Sport for several months and is a strong advocate of the charity’s inclusive cycling offer.

Access Sport CEO, Helen Rowbotham says:

“Declan has been an active supporter for many months now and we are absolutely thrilled that he has officially joined us as an Ambassador. Declan’s experience competing in BMX Freestyle at the highest level coupled with his commitment to inclusive community sport means that he has so much to contribute to our mission. We look forward to working together to support more disabled and disadvantaged children and young people to access the benefits of sport and physical activity”

In May this year, Declan attended the opening of a brand new, all-ability cycling facility in Stockwood, Bristol, on behalf of Access Sport - one of three new facilities opened by the charity in 2022.

Declan was born in Portsmouth and grew up riding BMX at his local skate park in Southsea. Before winning an Olympic bronze medal, he won a bronze medal at the European BMX Championships in Valmiera, and a silver in the freestyle World Cup in 2019.

Declan is a big supporter of Access Sport’s inclusive cycling offer, which aims to give every young person access to a bike, the skills and confidence to use it and somewhere local, safe and exciting to enjoy riding.

“I’m really excited to officially join Access Sport as an Ambassador. I’ve been involved with the charity for several months now and I’ve seen first-hand how Access Sport helps ensure sports like cycling are more inclusive, by removing some of the barriers that make it difficult for lots of kids to take part. If I can help raise the charity’s profile and ultimately get more young people riding a bike or being active in any sport – then I’m all in!”
