ON WEDNESDAY 10TH JULY 2019, 116 RIDERS FROM ACROSS LONDON MET AT THE OLYMPIC PARK BMX TRACK TO COMPETE IN ACCESS SPORT’S SUMMER SERIES BMX SCHOOL GAMES.

Race Day Report:

Last Wednesday Access Sport welcomed 116 students from 9 schools across London, to take part in a thrilling day of BMX racing at the Olympic Park BMX Track. It was great to see so many familiar faces who have been involved in our 12 week ‘Making Trax’ programme come along to compete.

The first races of the day were from our Wingz Riders, made up of students from St Paul’s Way Trust, who showed huge perseverance and bravery to take on their first School Games at the Olympic Track. Then it was time for our female riders, who showed equal amounts of courage and skill, with riders in the Year 3, 4 & 5 from Manorfield and Home Education setting a high standard. This was closely followed by Elm Green and Home Education battling it out in the Year 6 & 7 girls’ category.

With the crowd cheering them on, the Yr3, 4 & 5 boys, fearlessly took to the track. Our biggest age category of the day saw amazing talent from all riders with hardly anything separating the top 3 in each race. The first round of moto’s ended with the Boys Yr6, 7 & 8 followed by the Yr9, 10 & 11’s, with both groups effortlessly showing off some really impressive racing, treating everyone to some spectacular jumps as they competitively raced for the finish line.

Then it was time to go again for round 2 of moto’s!

After lunch and a well-deserved rest, it was time to complete the final of the riders 3 moto’s which would decide those all-important final races, with only the top 8 per age group going through. While everyone was waiting for the finals to be calculated, we were treated to a great display from our teachers and volunteers who took to the track for the highly anticipated ‘teachers race’ – with their pupils chanting from trackside they tackled the track with heart and grace all making it round the whole track.

Then it was time for the finals. With the top 8 announced over the microphone the riders nervously lined up in the pens ready to compete for those all-important podium positions. Find out the results below.

What an amazing day to see of the school year and thank you to all the amazing competitors, teachers, volunteers and Velopark staff. A massive well done to all the riders, many of which this was their first BMX competition, and we hope to see some of you back in December for our Winter Series race!
