"I have seen first-hand the joy, and the benefits sport can inspire."

Access Sport welcomes former England netball captain, Pamela Cookey, as our newest Ambassador.

Working together, we will break down barriers and create opportunities for children and young people to thrive.

In 2002, at just 17 years of age, Pamela was called to represent her country in the Manchester Commonwealth Games but had to withdraw due to an ACL injury. In 2004, she eventually made her senior debut with England, and in 2006 she won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, followed by another bronze medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Later that year, she also won silver at the World Netball Series.

Having retired from international netball in 2015, Pamela has stayed involved in the game via various roles. She was a Director of Netball at Severn Stars, is a member of the Sky Sports Broadcasting team, a Mintridge Netball Ambassador and the Independent Chair of Fearless Women, where she helps to enhance and drive positive change in women’s sport.

Pamela’s new relationship with Access Sport reflects her commitment to ensuring that all young people can achieve their potential and experience the benefits of sport. She aims to promote the benefits of incorporating sports into daily life and to bring more resources to support those who currently lack access to physical activity.

Pamela said:

“The work I have seen Access Sport provide to date is just amazing. The disadvantaged young people that have thrived with their support and funding over the years are so special to witness. The organisation really cares and champions a cause close my heart. The help they provide really can be life changing. I want to be a part of that as I have seen first-hand the joy, and the benefits sport can inspire.”

Helen Rowbotham, Access Sport CEO, said:

“It is fantastic to have Pamela onboard! Pamela’s experience as an elite athlete and the Independent Chair of Fearless Women, alongside her passion for inclusion, means she is perfectly positioned to support our vision. We look forward to working with Pamela as we strive to make inclusion the norm in community sport.”

Thank you, Pamela, for joining the team. Having influential individuals stand with us for inclusion is essential to our mission. We are excited to work with you in the years ahead.
