Running from Barcelona to London for Access Sport In March 2025 Cain Christoforou will embark on an extraordinary journey, running from his hometown of Sant Pere de Ribes to London, to raise funds for Access Sport. Our Fundraising and Events Coordinator, Ella, spoke to Cain ahead of his unbelievable challenge: Driven by Access Sport’s mission to help underserved young people access the transformational benefits of sport, Cain’s fundraising challenge is sure to push the limits! He aims to run over 1600 kilometres, from Barcelona to London, covering an average of 50 kilometres each day for a month, to complete his journey by April. Cain’s challenge will not come without its hurdles. He will face the physical demands of running this incredible distance every day, the risk of potential injuries, and the mental endurance required to keep pushing forward. Cain commented: "The first challenge I'll face is fatigue. I expect to be running six to eight hours a day, and my legs are going to be struggling after a few days. I hear from other people that you start to feel things like stress fractures in your legs and feet. Trying not to get injured while putting my body through a lot of stress is definitely one big challenge." He’s always enjoyed sports, but running became Cain’s passion when he moved to London after his studies. The inspiration for this challenge came from his love of running and being inspired by a friend’s achievement of rowing across the Atlantic. “The idea of running from my hometown in Spain to my current home in London just sort of clicked." Cain's family will be his main support during the challenge, travelling alongside him by car and bike. He is also inviting friends and fellow runners to join him for parts of the run to create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Cain shared: "I’ve been incredibly lucky to try my hand at many different sports, and they’ve played a huge role in shaping who I am today. But not everyone gets those same opportunities. For many children and young people, barriers like cost, accessibility, and lack of inclusive spaces mean they are often left on the sidelines." Cain hopes to reach his fundraising target of £25,000. The main goal of this unbelievable journey is to raise funds for Access Sport, to help provide sports opportunities for disadvantaged and disabled children. Cain's determination and commitment to Access Sport is inspiring. His journey will not only test his physical and mental limits but also shine a light on the importance of every young person having access to community sport.
