“Being a part of the National Youth Board over the last few years has been a great experience both personally and professionally, and I’d highly recommend applying.”

Access Sport’s National Youth Board contributes to our vision, supporting with shaping the wider delivery of our work through advocacy, system change, campaigning and fundraising. Being part of our National Youth Board is an incredible opportunity to make a real impact.

We are recruiting for the newest members of our Board. As Vice Chair, Katherine has first-hand experience of how much this role can shape your future and amplify your voice.

Article by Katherine Cleary.

I joined the National Youth Board in early 2023 because I was inspired by the charity’s work and wanted to learn more about the sports industry, while meeting new people. I had no idea how much I would gain from the experience, both personally and professionally.

Due to how much I was enjoying the role, in early 2024 I stepped into the role of Vice Chair, which was a chance for me to take on more responsibility and help shape the future of the Youth Board.

This role has greatly boosted my confidence, shaping me into the person I am today. It has given me valuable experience such as presenting at meetings, helping to shape projects and learning what true inclusion in sport looks like. Most importantly, I have met incredible people who share the same passion for making a difference.

What you’ll do as member of the Youth Board:

  • Attend quarterly meetings - you will have an input on project work and the strategy of the charity, meet different staff members and host Q&A’s
  • Events – you will have the opportunity to attend exciting events, some highlights for me have been attending the Breaking Barriers research launch, a gala dinner and several panel discussions
  • Networking – you’ll have the chance to make connections with other young people in the sports industry and other youth boards, for example, we recently held a meeting with the FA youth board
  • Training and Development – you’ll have plenty of opportunities to engage in our disability inclusion and neurodivergence training, adding to your personal skillset
  • Shape the future of the Youth Board by inputting to recruitment and development.

If you are passionate about sport, inclusion and making a difference, this is your chance to lead change and influence the future of inclusive sport. Join us and be a part of something bigger, helping us to create a world where every young person can access the power of sport.
