The showcase wasn’t just about riding skills, it was about inclusion, trying something new, and showing young people that sport is a place where they belong.

On 15 July, Access Sport hosted our first BMX Schools Showcase for three local schools who have engaged with our Cycling Outreach programme!

Held at Burgess Park BMX Track, over 45 young people came together for a high-energy day of cycling, creativity and collaboration.

Organised by our cycling team, the event gave students the chance to put their BMX skills to the test, work as a team and experience the inclusive power of sport after having built these skills during our five-week BMX Cycling Programme.

We created a circuit of four exciting activities that allowed every young person to shine, no matter their ability or experience.

Time Trial
The BMX time trial challenged riders to complete the course with speed and precision, impressing judges with their control and clean lines.

Pump Trial
In this challenge, no pedalling was allowed! Instead, riders used their momentum and balance to see how far they could go using only pumping skills.

Obstacle Course
The course tested everyone’s technical ability as they navigated around ramps and turns, while the knockout game brought fun and focus, with riders showing off their track stand skills.

Balance Challenge
Clear concentration was key for this challenge. Riders tested their balance as they competed to see who could hold their track stand for the longest. Off the bike, students teamed up to design and create vibrant school banners, bringing their creativity to the forefront.

Beyond the challenges, the teams were also scored on their sportsmanship, so the day was filled with lots of positive energy and encouragement as the teams competed to be their best selves off the bikes, as well as on!

Georgina Gouch, Senior Development Manager, said:
“The energy, teamwork and confidence on display was amazing. The showcase wasn’t just about riding skills, it was about inclusion, trying something new, and showing young people that sport is a place where they belong.”

This event was all about giving young people a safe, supportive space to build skills, confidence and friendship, and it was incredible to see the enthusiasm from every participant. A huge thank you to all the schools, teachers, coaches and volunteers who made the day such a brilliant success.
