On 25 September, Access Sport hosted a special dinner in Bristol to raise vital funds to support our ongoing mission to make inclusion the norm in community sport.

Our guests joined us at Harbour House Restaurant in Bristol to celebrate our 20th anniversary and the life-changing impact we have on disabled and disadvantaged young people.

The evening focused on raising funds for project Include!

One of our 20 for 20 projects that will see us transform 20,000 young lives in our 20th Anniversary year, Include will support under-resourced community sport clubs so that they can provide disabled young people with the life-changing social, physical and emotional benefits of sport.

To highlight the impact of our work in Bristol we were joined by Ben Mullen, Chair of the Bristol Penguins Swim Club; a grassroots inclusive club that we have recently supported to run a thriving disability-inclusive Learn-to-Swim session. You can watch the short video below to learn more about this work.

Ben sat on a panel alongside an array of special guests from across elite sport:

  • Paralympic Badminton player, Daniel Bethell
  • Former England Netball captain, Pamela Cookey
  • Team GB Hockey player, Simon Mantell.

It was fascinating to hear the panel talk about their careers and the pivotal importance of experiencing an inclusive community sport club at an early age! There was an emphasis throughout the conversation on the importance of young people having sporting opportunities and feeling inspired. The panel also agreed that grassroots sport, despite its countless societal benefits, is being overlooked and more needs to be done to remove the access barriers for young people.

Tom Dixon, Fundraising and Communications Director at Access Sport, said:

“It has been fantastic to bring our Bristol supporters together tonight. Thank you to everyone who has made the effort and donated so generously. Without your support, disabled and disadvantaged young people in Bristol would be missing out on the life-changing benefits of community sport!”

Thank you to our hosts for the evening, our special guests and everyone who attended. We appreciate your continued support!
