Access Sport would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed throughout the week and especially to England Hockey (Beth) & EHF (Siobhan/Tom) for helping to spread the word via their communications channels.

Flyerz Hockey at the EuroHockey Club Cup

#FlyerzWeek coincided with the EuroHockey Club Cup, which was being hosted in England for the very first time with our friends over at Surbiton Hockey club. Access Sport was delighted to be invited by the club to showcase Flyerz Hockey at the prestigious tournament on 18th May.

Access Sport and Flyerz Hockey ambassadors Kate & Helen Richardson-Walsh shared expert coaching tips to budding hockey stars, while Midland Mencap, the supreme Surbiton coaches and volunteers from East London and Folkestone Optimists Hockey clubs supported the Access Sport team to deliver outreach to local SEN schools, a Mencap group and the children’s trust.

The day was capped off with two Flyerz hockey showcase matches on the main pitch. The Midland Mencap team played an intra-exhibition 7v7 match, in preparation for the ParaHockey tournament in Barcelona later this year, with Team1 winning 2-0. The Mencap Flyerz team then took on the Surbiton HC ALL STARS to round off the day in style, coming out on top 6-2.

2017 ParaHockey GOLD medallists Midland Mencap were out in force to put on a show for the crowds at the event, pointing the spotlight firmly on Flyerz Hockey, ensuring the sun kissed crowd all experienced the powerful form of hockey that is Flyerz. Not a dry eye was in sight from the Surbiton club faithful.

Special thanks to Surbiton HC for the wonderful hospitality, to Kate & Helen Richardson Walsh for unwavering support, young volunteer Oliver and coaches/players from Surbiton, Andy Witham of Folkestone Optimists HC who stood in as goalkeeper in the sweltering heat for both exhibition matches and of course thanks to England Hockey and the EuroHockey Federation for attending to lend their support to Flyerz hockey (ID).

Forest Flyerz Fun Day

The penultimate day of #FlyerzWeek saw the annual Forest Flyerz Fun day take to the stage on May 19th. Back at the birth place of Flyerz Hockey in England, Forest Flyerz again showcased their regional festival and opened their doors to St Albans, Braintree and the traveling Midland Mencap Flyerz teams who again took to the road to take part in back-to-back Flyerz hockey festivals.

Access Sport, caught up with Byrn & Tom from the Midland Mencap team. Hear what they have to say about Flyerz Hockey and their latest adventure to Barcelona later this year for more gold medal chasing in ParaHockey (ID).
